Student conduct

Most students are well-behaved in the classroom. However, sometimes a student's poor behavior disrupts the class. To allow this to continue is not fair to the other students, nor is it fair to the disruptive student, who will get an inaccurate view of how a classroom should be conducted.

The pink Basic English policies and procedures handout outlines the expectations of the classroom. Be sure to go over this with your students in detail on the first day of class. All students should have a copy of it.

If a student is frequently disruptive to the learning process and you have not been able to control his behavior in the classroom, you should speak to him or her privately outside the class. Remind him of the information in the policies and procedures handout, and explain that students who are disruptive will be asked to leave the classroom. Whenever this occurs, please let me know what happened so I can track the situation.

The Student Handbook goes into great detail about all aspects of student conduct. You will all have a copy in your mailboxes to refer to as needed. Students should be made aware that if they want a copy, they may have one (free).
When in doubt about a student conduct situation, please contact me or Kellie Brennan in the Office of Student Life (kbrenna1@cscc.edu or 287–2117).
